Focus on teaching and training

CGIT is one of several multidisciplinary research groups at Virginia Tech involved in some facet of geospatial technology. A complete list of Virginia Tech's efforts in this arena can be found here.

CGIT faculty and staff members teach a wide variety of on-campus and off-campus courses and workshops to teachers and other groups nationally and internationally. Also, there is a significant training component in most of our projects. PIs, project managers and research associates instruct team and community members in the use of technology that is needed to meet and complete project goals. More information about most recent of our training activities can be found here.

At Virginia Tech, a number of departments that offer courses with GIS components include:

Graduate certificate in Geographic Information Technology (GIT)

Virginia Tech has created a new graduate certificate in Geographic Information Technology (GIT). Graduate students may apply to participate in the certificate program, which is intended to document their expertise in geographic information technology. Students who wish to complete the GIT Certificate Program may be candidates for master’s or doctoral degrees or be non-degree students interested in attaining a professional certificate.

More information on the educational opportunities in GIT at Virginia Tech can be found at the VT UCGIS website.
