Floodplain management

Flash-flooding and river flooding are the deadliest weather-related disasters in Virginia. According to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), out of the 35 presidentailly declared weather-related disasters in the state since 1969, three in four were floods. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) warns that costly damage to homes and businesses can be caused by as little as one inch of water.

CGIT has understood the importance of protecting Virginians from flood damage and embarked in several flood map modernization projects. New and accurate flood maps will help citizens and business alike to purchase the correct insurance and to build in safe areas.
