Our Mission

As a truly interdisciplinary university-wide center at Virginia Tech (VT), CGIT's mission is to generate visibility, procure research funding, and provide technical expertise in Geographic Information Systems, Global Positioning Systems, and Computer-Aided Design. Our staff, researchers, and affiliated faculty and researchers seek to integrate spatial awareness in intelligent data collection methods, in-field analysis, modeling and simulation, decision support, visualization, and several other techniques in a wide variety of domains.

We are committed to:

• Contributing to VT’s research, educational, and outreach missions by creating scientific knowledge, educating students, and offering applied solutions;
• Assisting in increasing the geospatially-related research activities at VT through the development of larger and more numerous multi-disciplinary funding proposals;
• Facilitating collaboration based on geospatial information technology throughout VT’s campuses, colleges, departments, and research centers.
