Our Research

Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) is the primary focus of the research projects developed at our Center. GIT is the sum of various technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).

CGIT has received more than $2.5 million dollars in research funding over the past three years in the following areas:

• Infrastructure and transportation
• Floodplain map modernization
• Hazard mitigation planning
• Wireless communications
• Environmental management
• Homeland security

Our projects have included:

• creating tools for wireless network system design;
• developing state and regional hazard mitigation plans;
• developing web-enabled tools for watershed management;
• geospatially enabling highway right of way information management;
• creating a digital atlas of archaeology sites;
• mapping and predicting earthquake motion;
• re-delineating FEMA floodplain maps.
