Matthew Pierson is a programmer/analyst for the Center for Geospatial Information Technology at Virginia Tech. He has a degree in Geography from Virginia Tech and has worked at CGIT since 2014, writing code for various processes including processing hourly mesoscale weather data, transforming raster elevation data into STL models for 3D printing, calculating the angle and amount solar radiation across raster elevation maps, and other projects. His work with Redistricting Analytics at Virginia Tech has included studying existing software codes for montecarlo exploration of districting plans and analysis of existing open source platforms to develop a new platform for redistricting and calculating metrics on district maps.
